Medieval German combat manuscript showing two fencers with wooden cudgels.
Although the artistic implementation of the drawing is sub-optimal, we can see various things.
The left fencer is the attacker. The right fencer blocks (1) and strikes (2) the attacker’s knee, lower leg, or ankle. To implement the technique the right fencer simultaneously dodges the attack by shifting his body (3) as well as his stance (4) sideways, thus generating momentum for the counter.
